Spotted him monday morning (the 7th) 200 yards on posted land. Waited on the edge of land i had access to that evening. He came by at 220 yrds and didn't feel comfortable shooting that range. Took off on foot and intercepted him and half mile later on the edge of 400 acre corn field. Had him at 130 yrds but didn't like the shot so passed. Went back in next day didn't see him til 4:00 snuck on him as he was going to feed but lost site of him as I was crawling. 30 yards away he popped out and bolted. Stopped him at 80 yards just cuz he wanted one last look at me. Shot hit him BUT i thought guts so backed out. Went back in moring found him about 400 yrds in the corn STILL ALIVE. Shot at him and missed. We tracked him for 4 hrs and 3 miles later into a cattail slough and finally came through with THE shot.  When i skinned him the first shot went in by the back rib and followed right along the bottom of the rib cage and exited the brisket.

Dude!!!  I'm speechless!!!  Congratulations!!

"When we step into the outdoors, we have the privilege of standing in the presence of God through the power and majesty of His creation. That makes hunting more than a sport or a hobby. It's a calling to something greater. And that transforms the places that we stand into something more than a cropfield or a pasture or a mountain. It makes that place Hallowed Ground."

wow that is truly awsome....let see some picture of his sheds with or without the deer.....i am a die hard when it comes to shed hunting and love shooting deer when i have more of his antlers sitting at home...any trail cam pictures of him too??? great story and way to stick with it after the first shot did not do the job....
I am a deer hunter, one thing about deer is they have very good vision, one thing about me is i am better at hiding then they are at vision.

If you have to think twice....he is not a shooter!

Each shed tells its own unique story, no two are the same!

Thanks guys!! I will try to get some pics of the sheds. I have the pair from 06, missed 07, and have 08. He had just nubs of kickers started last year and the brow started splitting. He "turned into the deer" he should this year. Thats the problem we have is "most" of our deer don't hit the age they need to prove themselves.

cwm,

Hunted him hard.  He has grown.  Not sure how much, don't know if I will ever know.  Elluded me over 12 days.  Saw him four different times.  Hope to make it happen over remainder of bow season.

It is the $50 Traditions 0 or 1 power (don't know what its actually considered) scope from Scheels. Trust me...I've never looked through a scope at 80 yards and had the crosshairs cover the whole deer. Also I can see my barrel. These scopes don't make it real easy but they help a bit.

awesome,  does it have normal crosshairs in it.  I have a red dot on  mine and it is a little tricky to get used too.  Maybe something like yours that have a normal crosshair to look at might be easier.  Congrats on the buck didn't mean to dog ya just had to ask.

Not a problem. I see the sling looks to be a bit folded under and you must have been seeing that cuz i was wondering how you could see much scope. IF i remember correctly it is normal crosshairs but then I BELIEVE theres also a circle around the crosshairs. The crosshairs are very fine too. Have a buddy that had red dot and didn't like it at all.

Awesome deer!  way to pass on a shot u weren't comfortable with, only great hunters do that, not many would.  u don't have to give up a secret location but what area of state was this in if u don't mind saying.

Nice!  And yeah, the event is a good one.  Some of the best deer from the west and many come from long distances.  Good times for sure.

If only I weren't an idiot and mistaken this weekend as the weekend of the contest I would have been there as a spectator!

How did this end up ranking in ND all time books?  It had to be close to the top as the record is 194.

Oh and forgot to mention the 194 state record was I'm sure typical. I had to score him nontypical and that is why he had few duducts cuz there wasn't much deducts on typical frame.

I was wondering how there was so few deducts with all of those sticker points.  Either way that is a deer is awesome.

Since it was measured as a nontypical the deducts come off the overall  typical frame. The G4 on one side looks to have been damaged in velvet so it alone was 2 inches shorter .  Yea I can't wait to get it back from the taxi its gonna look good.

Yup, what sticknbig said.  To score it typical (which a person can do if he really wants) you gotta subtract all the junk.  For instance, on my mule deer, in a net typical I scored in the 140 inch mark.  Net non typical it went 216 inches.  So you can see there is a ton of subtraction if you go typical score.

Your whitetail is a beast and I look forward to a photo of the mount!
