Jerman Buck

The ‘Buckeye’ state of Ohio has held true to its namesake by producing some of the largest whitetail bucks in history. The famed ‘Hole in the Horn Buck’ and more recently the ‘Beatty Buck’ have proven why Ohio is the cream of the crop in trophy whitetails.

Ohio crossbow hunter Brad Jerman, once again carried out this tradition of monster whitetails by harvesting a world-class typical in November of 2004.

Brad has had success with big bucks in the past. He tagged a 149” typical whitetail several years ago, but as a self-described meat hunter, takes anything that comes under his stand and lets God do the rest.

Hunting whitetails since 1995, and having experienced harvesting trophy sized bucks wasn’t enough to keep the nerves calm when he first spotted the monster buck. The evening before that fateful day, Brad was trying to get video footage for a Buckmasters video contest.  The buck appeared in his viewfinder and Brad could hardly overcome the excitement. After capturing 45 seconds of video, the buck disappeared into the woods.

The following morning Brad was cautiously sneaking back to his stand when a deer blew. Not wanting to be detected, Brad snorted-wheezed back, hoping to convince he was another deer in the darkness. After trading calls with the deer Brad settled into his stand, now the wait was on.

As the first light broke, Brad could see several does, then, those familiar antlers. The bucks approached took him within 12 yards of his stand, but with no shot opportunity. Finally the buck past an opening at 20 yards and the arrow was on the way. Moments later the monster antlered whitetail staggered to his death just 25 yards away!

The buck was his!

This massive 11-point buck tipped the measuring charts with a gross score of 208 7/8” and finished with an outstanding net score of 201 1/8”. The inside spread measured 24 1/8’and the greatest spread at 28”. The base circumference measurements were over 5” and the left brow tine (the longer of the two) is an incredible 12”!

This is one great trophy of a lifetime. Congratulations Brad!!
