Will be taking the family down to the Black Hills this summer for a week of fun and relaxation.  We will be staying in our camper at Horsethief Campground and other then the obvious Mount Rushmore visit are there any other must do things?

There will be the wife and I along with 3 kids from 7 to 14 years of age.  We enjoy hiking, fishing, etc.

Would love to hear some suggestions.

You've got to take them through Custer State Park while you're there, drive the wildlife loop and then back up the needles highway.  The 1880 Train in Hill City is a good experience.  Jewel Cave and Wind Cave are must see's as well.  There's lots of tourist traps in the black hills so buyer beware.  The ones I listed are worth the money.  Have a great vacation!

Devils Tower is a cool thing to go see and spend a couple hours walking around.

Agree with all of the above!

A few more to consider;

Bear country - plenty of animals to see.
Crazy Horse - pretty neat to see, also a flinstones park for kids to play at.
Reptile Gardens - haven't been there since I was a kid but remember it was fun.

Have fun!

It's just south of Custer...they are really nice log homes and there is an outside fire pit plus when we went they had a littel fish pond behind the cabins.  Just little pan fish in ti but fun for kids.

The needles highway is pretty unique, easy to do.
If you are into hiking, go to Sylvan Lake and park you vehicle on the East side parking lot and hike up to Harney Peak, the highest point in the Black hills, the highest point between the Appalachians and the Rockies I think.
Its not a difficult hike.   They told us 3 hours up and 2 down, but even at my age with a walking stick/cane we did it in around an hour and a half up and an hour down.   The old lookout tower is still there and strengthened so you can climb up in it, and makes  good photo ops!
Lots of lakes and streams to fish, well stocked.
If you are into bicycling ride the Mickleson Trail, a hiking/biking trail from Deadwood to Rochefort, 107 miles over some 170 tressles and bridges, some old railway tunnels - very scenic.   Its easy to ride only the easy  parts of it, only the downhill parts of it if you want to avoid the gentle long uphill stretches. The grades are very gradual and long and are very easy, both up and downhill..  Have a bike shop drop the family off on top of a pass, and ride back to Hill City is a good one to try and bikes can be rented if you don't have them.   Or they will drop you off and pick you up wherever you want.
Lots of tourist traps, some good , some not so good.  That weird gravity place was kind of interesting, a whole series of optical illusions.

And it goes without saying, but I will anyway. Make sure you take plenty of batteries, SD cards, film, etc. to take pics and/or video. They grow up fast.

Roughlock falls is pretty neat.  Don't remember how to get there but it's near where Dances with Wolves was filmed.  Ask the locals.

I would go to cook lake, It's right beside Bear Lodge close to Devil's Tower in Hulett, Wyomin. They have hiking trails and a campground right there.  You will see a tremendous amount of wildlife and you'll have a great time.

Make the scenic trip through Spearfish Canyon and be sure to stop at The Crossroads perferably for breakfast. There is a very cool indoor gocart  track in Rapid. Cars go uo to around 35 mph and the track is a very smooth and waxed road course. Very very fun.
