I was fortunate to meet Fred and Mrs. (Henrietta) Bear right here in Bismarck during the Pope & Young Banquet in 1977.  My son and I had the pleasure to sit and have breakfast with them on Sunday am after the Saturday night extravaganza.  Just the 4 of us--was just like friends getting together for a chat.  The night before, we ended the evening with Fred, Jim Doughrety, G Fred Asbell, and Doug Kittridge in our motel room telling hunting tales until the wee hours at the Radison (now the Ramkota Inn).  Later, I was honored to be a member of the Fred Bear Field Staff Team, and even recieved an invitation to hunt with Fred and a group of fellow archers at his Grouse Haven hunting camp.  I was unable to attend due to the birth of my daughter, but what an honor!  Mr Bear was as fine of a gentleman as you will ever meet, and I treasure my memories.  Thank you Mr Fred Bear from all of us outdoorspeople whom owe you a great debt of grattitude for opening many barriers to bowhunting, hunting in general, archery as it has become today, and always with a kind wink to all mankind, a love for the sport and outdoors and wildlife, and being the kind man you were!  THANK YOU!

I just love that black-and-white stillshot of Fred with that whitetail.   You can see the deep respect that he has for that deer.

I just contrast that with todays celebrity hunters who would be waving it in our faces talking about mass, g-2's, stickers, the latest gadget,......etc.....      None of them would be caught dead shooting a deer that small.

I have the DVD set and all 8hrs of it are great.  Lots of good kill shots, especially on the grizzlies.  He goes to the ND badlands after mulies too.

Bows on the Little Delta is an excellent book for those of you that are readers.  Lots of wild bow hunting stories of Fred and friends from the good ole days.

I have always loved the video of him ambushing the grizzly as it walked down that stream bed. Pulls off a great shot from behind a rock at like 10 yards. Truly epic.

I love the videos where the archer and the animal are in the same frame.  You can see the arrow released...sail... and hit its mark.

Fred was my insperation growing up,I still remeber watching his spot-n-stock the very 1st time when he put a pair of wool socks over his hunting boots to quiet his approch through the woodlands of northern Mn,very cool,I suspect I picked up archery in the mid 60's,1st bow(long bow) was a fiber glass Ben Person, then my 1st semi recurve bear bow, still have it,shot many creatures with it,later on my 1st full recurve was a Black Widow, still have it as well, great memories.Thanx for the thread.

As a kid in the 70's I attended the NFAA nationals in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. I met him there and he signed a baseball cap for me.  I should have kept the hat but I think it got thrown away.
