My dad made some sort of moonshine that he bottled and capped , Not sure how he made it without  a stil  but  it  was some wicked stuff. He made a few batches but wine was his specialty.    When I was a kid part of my summer chores was picking many 5 gallon pails of  chokecherrys, He made  wine in 30 gallon crocks 3 at a time,  Jeez when I think about it that is a lot of wine.  . My Brother in law keeps up the tradition and makes dandylion wine and chokecherry wine . I snuck a gallon of chokecherry when I was in highschool and have never drank wine since.

I brew my own beer.  It can be lots cheaper per case, but.... it can cost lots more when I get fancy.  Either way, I make it my way and it taste soooo much better than commercial cwap!

Rolling your own shells is not about being thrifty, nowadays it is about a load you have developed for a specific firearm.
I got into reloading to save money having 2 sons that were also into hunting; but reloading when you add in the equipment cost is no longer less expensive.

Haha  I can relate to that worm wiggler,  Kids will be kids.    I had forgot about the Rhubarb wine,   That wasnt as bitter as the chokecherry and it was way easier to cut rhubarb than to pick chokecherrys.

I have 14 gallons of rhubarb wine now that is ready to bottle.  I make chokecherry also but the berries here in the Turtle Mountains haven't been hangin very good last couple of years.  I usually make 24 gallons at a time but didn't get enough rhubarb to make that much.  I have been making my own wine for close to 20 years now and have the bugs worked out.  I get mine up to around 14% and it goes down very nicely but don't dare have more than a couple glasses as the hangover is vicious!  RodnReel

Yeah, I make my own wine and the hangovers are bad.  I usually make the alcohol content around 14%.  It's cheap and easy to make.  However when you say hootch are you talking moonshine?  It too can be cheap and easy but you need the right equipment.  There are some scrubbers that can make 90% - 95% alcohol in one distillation but it will cost you about $500 to get started.  Oh yeah, it's illegal to make distilled alcohol.  Don't know why but it is.

My soon to be son in law brews his own beer. He has gotten fairly good at it. Now he is trying to grow his own hops in his backyard- I don't think that is going to well. I have a friend that had his own stainless steel still built by a local HVAC contractor. He makes the best brandy out of oranges that you have ever tasted! It is kind of sneaky though, really smooth (no bite) and 140 proof.

A guy I met in town actually brews everything completely from scratch.  Buys 300 pounds of grain, sprouts it, bakes it in his oven, and brews the beer with hops he grows in his backyard.  He said it costs about $4 for a case of beer and it tastes pretty good.
