Mounted in Alaska/Taxidermy Contest

Did anyone else think the judge was being a jackhole when he inspected 'ol Boy's cat?  IMO, a mount should be a true representation of the animal the moment before demise.   ESPECIALLY when the customer demands it.  Another thing, if Mr. Knight knew this was going to be a contest of "the perfect specimen", he shouldn't have allowed the cat entered in the contest.  That cat was best in show and an awesome trophy.

I had the opposite opinion.  I'm no expert in big cats but to me it did not look natural.  I thought it's neck was an odd shape, it looked kind of long.  Plus I didn't like the pose.  It may be that's how they are suppose to look or maybe it was the camera angle but to me, it looked funny.

I thought the judge was a prick, but I think there were better mounts there anyway. They obviously aren't going to show up close the work of another taxidermist on that show, but from quick glimpses I remember seeing, there were better mounts there. I gotta say, for being on a national tv show, you would think these guys would be a little bit better. Half the time they don't even seem like they know what they're doing. Not that I'm a taxidermist, or could I do any better, but wow. If they are considered really good, it makes me kinda of nervous about getting my next mount.

The Polar bear and African Lion were enough to let me know I don't need to have them do anything for me.  IMO that Lion was well beyond horrible.  I don't care how good the customer is, how badly he wants to see the Lion's junk, or what he's paid to have the mount done, no Lion would sit on his own balls like that either.

+1. this was the first episode that ive watched and i was really disappointed, that lion looked awful. i was also unimpressed with the silver salmon job that they did for the kid (apparently they only do replicas at that shop, according to the main guy). Pretty lame if you ask me. Nice paint job, but it's still a replica and the finished product looked nothing like what he really caught.
SMASH!!!

From what i have seen on this show, I can say without a doubt that we have multiple taxidermist in this region that are far better than these Alaska guys.

Completely agree. There are alot of taxidermists from North Dakota that can do a better job for mounts, without question.

The freakn' lion was old and it's hot in Africa.  Naturally, he WOULD sit on his balls--all the damn time and roar a lot.  You guys obviously don't know scat.

Some of their stuff looks good, but they just don't seem like they know what they're doing. I dont know if they film it that way on purpose or what, but it's kind of embarrassing to watch. That's pretty much why I watch it, same reason I watch swamp men. I wish it was somewhere warmer so they might show tina in a bikini though.
