I picked a new varmint gun and trying to find the right scope i have a 4-12x44 but looking at getting up to that 4.5-14 to 4-16 power just wondering what people are using i have been doing some research but just curious on what everyones thoughts are? I will be using for yotes, prarie dogs, maybe the occasional deer. The gun is stainless would love the scope to match but slim pickens so i am not worried about the finish.

I have 3 of the scheels scopes on my rifles.... 7mm Ultra Mag .... 7mm Rem Mag... and a Rem 700 25-06.... Ive had nikons and Leupold.... and in all honesty... I have had better luck with the scheels scopes... they are very clear.... and for the price 230-300... they have a lifetime warranty... even if you lose your receipt... they will exchange one over the counter... no questions asked.... GREAT scope for the price and will handle the recoil of a big bore

Do we have a Scheels salesman on here???? Scheels does not make scopes! They have somebody else do it and then slap their name on it so you can;t comparison shop and they can maintain their margins. Which actually means they are over priced!!!  Sorry they might be decent scopes, but you will pay more for what you get!!!  Personally I like to get the most for my dollar!  Buy Leupold or save a few bucks and buy Nikon! I have never been sorry about purchasing either one! Great scopes, Great warranties and no problems!!!

Tearbear.... I can say YES i worked at scheels.... but it hasnt been for about 4 years... and what some people dont know... the "scheels scope" ...was made by LEUPOLD for 2 years!! Thats why they have a good warranty..... not sure who makes the "scheels scope" now.... but mine are the older style ones made by leupold with the "scheels" name on them.... Scheels does have a hefty margin to price ratio..... they make about 60% on their scopes.... as I paid alot less for them when I worked there... butttttt even for their price they are a good scope....  I got a leupold after I worked at scheels.... a factory one.... had problems with it.... so its all about the pick of the litter.... maybe it was just a lemon? who knows.... but the "scheels scope" is a good scope for the price plain and simple.

I think  scheels scopes are damn good for the money!  think there made by pentex?  I own lots of scopes: nikon, burris and swift are my favorites!  dont own a leapold yet! but I cant find the cash for one!

imo i think a 4.5-16-40 would work well for you. I run mostly 4.5-12-40 on mine. but each to there own just my 2 cents

i have looked at scheels scopes in the past and have known guys who have them and they have had mixed feelings but i think that goes along with any scope. I have looked Nikon,Burris, leupold, And i Have had several salesman talk to me about the weaver grand slam good bang for the buck and they also make them in silver wich is nice i know years ago weaver was an excellent scope but i personaly don't know anyone who has one? zogman- those are nice scopes buddy has one not a bad price but a lil much for my checkbook.i a looking at that $400 range.
